Gov. Mark Parkinson is set to announce Monday where he intends to make cuts in the 2010 Kansas budget.

Parkinson has scheduled a 3:30 p.m. news conference in his office to detail how he plans to close a projected shortfall of some $260 million.

Parkinson, a Democrat, has promised legislators that he will make the cuts and get the budget to balance before they return in January for the next session.

The cuts were necessitated by continued decline in Kansas revenue collections. A group of economists and analysts on Nov. 5 slashed projections for state tax collections by $235 million for the rest of the fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2010.
