  • Beatrice “Jane” Lawrence 86, of Opolis, KS died 10am Sunday July 7, 2013 at her home following an illness.  
    Jane was born April 26, 1927 in Carthage, MO the daughter of Edward Clinton and Ruth C (McBride) Tatum.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Carl Junction High School.  
    On October 12, 1943 Jane married Melvin F. Lawrence in Girard, KS; she preceded him in death on January 9, 2009.  Jane was a member of the Opolis Methodist Church; loved reading, her pets and most of all her family.  
    Survivors include her children Gary Lawrence and wife Joann of Oak Harbor, WA, Lee Lawrence and wife Barbara of Asbury, MO and Dan Lawrence and wife Vivian of Arma, KS; siblings Lavera Goodnight, Ronald Tatum, Royce Tatum, Robert Tatum, Ralph Tatum, Linda Adams, Ray Tatum, Rollie Tatum, Rex Tatum, Rickey Tatum, Randy Tatum and Rodney Tatum; grandchildren Kathy, Richard, Julie, Gary Jr., Leroy Jr., Cassie, James, Jody and Tyler; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and a close friend Sue Carlton.  
    She was preceded in death by parents, stepfather Ray Richardson who provided for her care; sisters Lavon Vonier and Betty Jean Lamey,  and a brother Richard Tatum.  
    Graveside Services will be 11am Friday July 12, 2013 at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.  Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery for services.  Family will receive friends from 6-7pm Thursday July 11, 2013 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS; friends may call after 11am Thursday.  In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Opolis Methodist Church.  Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
