The Girard High School Yearbook Staff went to a Jostensinformational workshop at Pittsburg State University Sept. 4.
Students from Frontenac, Pittsburg, St. Paul, Parsons, Webb City, Golden City, Labette County, Altoona-Midway, Sarcoxie, Liberal, Jayhawk-Linn, Southeast, Wheaton and Columbus high schools attended the workshop along with students from Pittsburg and Webb City middle schools.
Jostens yearbook representative Tom Shields opened the session with "The Yearbook Top 10," the 10 things a staff member must always remember, including staying ahead of schedule and how to properly outline a page.
Jostens representative Jeff Jasper thenshowed the students "Images with Impact," a video of the top Jostens pictures from 2013, and also presented a gallery of photos while discussing proper photographic technique.
During the workshop, Girard staff members and instructor Jason Day sat down with a Jostens artist to draw out a sketch of the 2013-2014 yearbook cover, which was completed and turned in for production.
The staff ended the day with layout and design discussions of the upcoming yearbook.
Regarding the session, staff member Ashley McDonald said, "It was very informational and helped us learn about the full aspect of yearbook."
Others who participated include McKenna Belcher, Russell Frisbee, John Hey, Ryan Hisey, Tara Miller, Kelci Murphy, Christian Provence, Taylor Redfern, Cassidy Thomason and Sara Wiens.
