Pittsburg attorney Kurtis Loy was appointed to the 11th District Court of the State of Kansas Thursday by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.

Loy, an attorney and senior member of Loy & Sagehorn, LLC, will replace retiring Chief Judge John C. Gariglietti on the court.

"Kurtis’ knowledge on a wide variety of legal issues qualifies him well for this position on the 11th District Court," Brownback said in a press release issued by his office. "He has a sharp legal mind that will serve his community well."

Throughout his career, Loy has practiced many different areas of law, including probate, contracts, civil litigation, tax law and family law, and has mediated civil litigation and child custody cases.

Loy is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and the Washburn University School of Law.

Loy will serve on the 11th District Court, which serves Cherokee, Crawford and Labette counties and serves as a trial court for the state, overseeing all civil and criminal cases.
