Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas is accepting donations to assist with damages sustained when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. As in the past, when the foundation has helped with other international and national disasters, as well as those closer to home, it takes responsibility to link the charitable giving from this region with those in need from this disastrous storm. The foundation ensures that its donors’ gifts will go to designated 501 (c)3 American organizations which are actively present to help. Those wishing to make a contribution for this disaster should make their checks payable to Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas, specifying “Typhoon Haiyan” on the memo line. Contributions may be mailed to 100 S. Broadway, Ste. 100, Pittsburg, Kan., 66762, or dropped by the office. Contributions may also be made online at, or by calling 620-231-8897 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations are tax-deductible. The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas was founded in 2001 by a group of citizens interested in encouraging charitable giving and strengthening communities. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $8 million in grants through its donor-advised, unrestricted, designated, field-of-interest, scholarship and organizational endowment funds. As a local center for charitable giving, the foundation works with individuals, families, corporations, private foundations and not-for-profit organizations to carry out their charitable objectives and address emerging community needs. It is one of more than 700 community foundations in the country, and is a member of the Council on Foundations and the Kansas Association of Community Foundations. The foundation is an affiliate of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.
