The Chetopa Green Hornets and the Uniontown Eagles were easily the class of the Three Rivers League 8-man teams this season. That was apparent through a combined 13-6 overall, 9-1 league record and it was apparent once again when the schools combined for over 30 All-TRL selections, either first team or honorable mention. The Green Hornet offense stung opposing defenses for 54 points per game — yes, 540 points over a 10-game season. With that kind of production, it was no surprise that Chetopa had first-team selections for center Chisom Cloud, offensive lineman Dylan Gainer, quarterback Phillip Moses (unanimous), receiver Austen Sanders (unanimous) and running back Derrick Cassell (unanimous), as well as tight end Layton Carter and kicker Blake Clayborn. Moses passed for 2,093 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 155-243. Sanders caught 71 of those 155 completed passes for 1,204 yards and 24 TDs. He caught 20 passes for 222 yards and five scores against Madison/Hamilton, a game where the teams only combined for 148 points (Madison/Hamilton won 92-56). Cassell rushed for 1,514 yards and 31 TDs on 152 carries. On the defensive side, Chetopa had Brice Riddle, Gainer and Cassell earn first team nods as defensive linemen. Gainer, a first team punter, and special teams player Zach Wickham both earned unanimous selections. Cassell made a team-high 113 stops, Gainer 56 and Riddle 51. Other Green Hornet selections, all honorable mention: offensive lineman Riddle, running back Trenton Scott, kicker Riddle, linebacker Scott, linebacker Dylan Riddle, defensive back Sanders (seven interceptions, honorable mention?) and defensive back Alex Carter. Uniontown, 6-3 overall and 4-1 TRL, finished with center Zach Schwalm honorable mention, offensive lineman James Pearson first team, offensive lineman Montana Beerbower honorable mention, quarterback Jacob Duffey honorable mention, tight end Chase Gleason unanimous first team, running back John Reed first team, running back Cole Schafer honorable mention, defensive lineman Beerbower first team, defensive lineman Tyler Johns honorable mention, linebacker Reed unanimous first team, defensive back Gleason first team and special teams player Skyler Riley honorable mention. Honorable mention Schafer had 793 yards and 20 TDs on 100 carries, while first team Reed had 480 yards and 11 scores on 47 totes. Reed, however, added 14 catches for another 210 yards and three TDs. Gleason caught a team-high 19 passes for 416 yards and six TDs, all team-highs. Reed made 51 tackles. Beerbower recorded 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks. Gleason added two interceptions. Chetopa and Uniontown more or less played for all the TRL marbles in Week 4, a game which turned out 72-54 in favor of the Green Hornets.
