Marlena Wallsingham Nivens recently started a 10-week post-graduate internship in human resources at SKIL Resource Center, Inc., Parsons.
A December 2013 graduate of Pittsburg State University, Nivens earned a degree in psychology with an emphasis in human relations.
Under the direction of Susan Schulze, human resources manager at the non-profit agency that provides services to Kansans with disabilities, Nivens will gain experience in end-of-year processes, including health care enrollment and employee benefit and income reporting.
After the first of the year she will assist in data collection, insurance issues, employment and orientation processes and payroll processes. The internship will conclude at the end of February.
"We are extremely pleased that Mrs. Nivens has accepted this internship in non-profit human resources development," said Dave Sorrick, SKIL director of development and special projects. "Marlena has been employed on a part-time basis in our Pittsburg operations while completing her formal education at Pitt State. She has held a variety of positions in retail sales, radio sales and radio promotions and we are excited to offer her this opportunity to join us at our main location in Parsons to learn more about the core personnel practices of our non-profit agency."
