Representatives from the Kansas Small Business Development Center (KSBDC) at Pittsburg State University will be in Fort Scott on Thursday, April 10, for free individual counseling sessions from 9:00am-noon. The sessions will be held at the Fort Scott Community College, Administration Building, Greyhound Room, 2108 S. Horton. The KSBDC will host business counseling sessions at Labette Bank, 2121 Main, Parsons, on Tuesday, April 8, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and at the Girard Public Library Meeting Room, 128 W. Prairie, Girard, on Wednesday, April 9, from 1-3 p.m.
Local residents interested in developing new or existing businesses, and existing businesses interested in discussing their financing and other assistance needs, can meet with KSBDC counselors during this time. KSBDC assistance is confidential and provided without charge.
Area residents interested in beginning their own business are encouraged to attend a free two-hour “How to Start Your Own Business” workshop in several area communities: Fort Scott, Ks – Fort Scott Community College -- Admin Bldg, Greyhound Room 2108 S Horton Thursday, April 10, 2014 – 1:00pm-3:00pm and Pittsburg State University – Shirk Hall – BTI Conference Room Wednesday, April 9, 2014 – 9:00am – 11:00am 1501 S. Joplin St.
This workshop is for persons who are thinking about starting their own business, or who are just curious about what it takes to do so.
Participants will learn what they will need to consider beginning their own business and what services are available to assist them. The seminar will address topics including: business planning; startup considerations; forms of business ownership; licensing and registration considerations; marketing considerations; financial factors; sources of capital; and business assistance available. Presenters for the workshop will be members of the Kansas Small Business Development Center counseling staff.
The KSBDC is part of the Business and Technology Institute (BTI) at PSU. The BTI provides one-stop managerial, financial and technical assistance to individuals and businesses in Southeast Kansas. All business functional areas can be discussed at length. Subsequent counseling will be scheduled on an as-needed basis, will involve follow-up visits by KSBDC/BTI personnel as necessary, and will be tailored to the needs of the business.
