PHOTO BLOG: Crawford State Park

I spent the afternoon and early evening the other day at Crawford State Park working on a story about the rental cabins they offer for visitors to the park. The photographs I made are of the Shady Rest cabin which can sleep up to nine guests. I had a great time wandering around searching for photo opportunities. At one point it was just me walking around by myself and I answered a barred owl that I heard off in the distance who in returned replied back much louder like it owned the place. It reminded me of camping trips I took as a kid. I heard several coyotes yelping to each other somewhere in the park as the sun went down and night started to take over. I saw two great blue herons gracefully fly together across the lake, their long wings almost touching the water surface as they flew. I had a lot of fun out there and a very peaceful afternoon. I have added a link to the story by Will Klusener below.

The Shady Rest cabin at Crawford State Park at Farlington was built by park crews in 2006 and comfortably sleeps at least nine guests. It comes with multiple bedrooms, a covered patio, full kitchen and flat screen TV with cable access. The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism launched its new Parks Passport program this month, which it hopes will increase the number of visitors as well as revenue.

The Shady Rest cabin at Crawford State Park has its own dock, which can be used for swimming, fishing or boating. Park officials say it's not uncommon for patrons to see Bald Eagle and Osprey diving for fish in the wee hours of the morning.

The cabins at Crawford State Park are fully functional and have a complete stock of dishes, utensils and cups. Renters only need to provide their own linens and food. Park officials pioneered adding cable TV to the cabins, and are in the process of installing dishwashers, another first.

The covered patio of the Shady Rest cabin at Crawford State Park, which park officials say offers spectacular sunrise views, is one of the perks of renting the largest cabin in the park.
