I spent a recent morning at the Pittsburg State University Nature Reach facility with program co-ordinator Delia Lister as she cared for and talked about the numerous education animals in the collection. I enjoy photographing the creatures we share the planet with. It is most enjoyable for me when they are in their natural habitat, but this can't always be the case. Environmental education is important and the animal ambassadors at places like Nature Reach help get the message out to the public that they are all very much worth saving. As I was making my photographs it reminded me of when I was a child spending many long days at the zoo, fascinated with the animals I observed from all parts of the world as I wandered from one exhibit to the next. I payed attention to what I read and the educators I listened to and learned quite a bit about the environment and our need to protect it.
