Each week during the primary campaign, U.S. Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt have been invited to submit a weekly blog entry. The following is from Moran for the previous week (sent Monday):

With a never ending stream of bailouts, stimulus packages, and trillions-upon-trillions in debt, Washington has a spending problem that needs to be stopped. Many that live in Washington believe we can simply print and spend money with no consequences. That way of thinking is nothing short of reckless. The reality is Kansans are paying for Washington's spending problem, and we simply cannot afford it.

It's not fair and not right to continue heaping trillions in debt on future generations; adding such a burden means that our kids and grandkids simply will not have the same opportunities we've enjoyed. That may be how Washington works, but that is not how Kansas works. Our country is financially bankrupt and we can no longer afford Washington's business-as-usual.

As someone that has opposed every stimulus and every bailout proposed by either political party, I've always found myself explaining to Washington what is in Kansas' best interests, because Washington never seems to understand our needs and priorities. That is part of the reason why I've been a Kansan my entire life and have continued living in Hays with my family for over 20 years.

I've always advocated for common sense Kansas values and principles, like lower spending, lower taxes, less government intervention and protecting family values. While some move to Washington and change their views and priorities, I've always stayed firmly rooted in Kansas.

In that light, my campaign just recently launched Kansan Testimonials for Jerry, a weekly web video feature of Kansans explaining why they support my campaign. It's an honor to have this kind of support from such a wide range of Kansans.

For example, Joe Ludlum of Bourbon County, is supporting me because of my work on behalf of Kansas' farmers, ranchers and rural communities.  Joining the Kansas Farm Bureau and Kansas Livestock Association, Joe said, "I’m supporting Jerry Moran because as a farmer I recognize all of the things that he's done for farmers over the past few years. I think he has probably done more for farmers than all of the rest of the delegation put together. That’s been the heart and soul of his efforts. And I would look any Kansan in the eye and tell them that Jerry has reached out to all Kansans and invited them in irregardless of whether he agrees with their opinion or not [at] his town meetings, and he has just done a great job for the people of Kansas."

Meanwhile, Kansans like Marcia Lohoefener of Decatur County, voiced her support in a video saying this: "...the thing about Jerry Moran is, he’s an honest guy and he’s one of us. And right now with everything that’s going on in Washington that is so worrisome for our America and our freedom, I want Jerry Moran to be there."

In another video, longtime supporter Doyle Rahjes voices his support as such, "I’ve known Jerry Moran for years and he has done us a tremendous job in Kansas... and now I want to support him for Senate because I know he is a man of integrity and will always represent the people of Kansas. I’m going to vote for Jerry Moran, and hope other people do too."

You can see these videos and future ones at www.moranforkansas.com/testimonials. With your help, we can send a strong message to Washington: It's time to stop the spending madness.
