Ed. Note: Each week during the primary campaign, U.S. Reps. Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran have been invited to submit a weekly blog entry. The following is from Tiahrt:
Like most Americans, Independence Day is a special time for my family as we gather to celebrate the birth of our great nation and the brave men and women who sacrificed all, to bring freedom to their countrymen. We thank those who have served in our armed forces and who currently serve to maintain that freedom, not only on Independence Day, but every day.
Two-hundred and thirty-four years ago, 56 extraordinary patriots assembled in Philadelphia to sign a revolutionary document that would create this great country. By adding his name to the Declaration of Independence, each man knew he was risking his future and his life for the sake of freedom. Still today, thousands of young Americans in uniform are voluntarily risking their lives and their futures in defense of our nation and our freedoms.
So as we’re enjoying the festivities of weekend with family and friends, let us remember the brave men who founded this country on the enduring idea of freedom and those who have volunteered to defend our nation and lay down their life, if necessary, for the sake of others. Such sacrifice and commitment is inspiring beyond words.
We send a special thank you to the brave men and women overseas, fighting today to uphold our way of life and enable our children and grandchildren to enjoy this gift of freedom. And for those whose loved ones are currently serving overseas, let us pray for their quick and safe return.
God bless you and your family this Independence Day weekend and God bless America.
