Each week during the primary election season, U.S. Reps. Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran have been invited to submit a weekly blog entry. The following is from Tiahrt:

Last weekend we got a boost by Fox News contributor and former Senior Advisor to the President Karl Rove who came to Kansas to endorse my campaign for the U.S. Senate. We had more than 750 people show up at our events in Kansas, and the level of excitement from supporters continues to swell.

Karl Rove is only endorsing two candidates in primaries this year – Marco Rubio and our campaign. While speaking to hundreds of Kansas Republicans, Karl gave a first-hand account about how my opponent, Congressman Moran, tried to trade his vote for a campaign fundraiser.

In Karl Rove’s own words:

“We've got an important vote, and the Democrats, which were willing to give trade promotion authority agreements, you know, to Clinton said: We're not willing to give it to George W. Bush. And we had a tough vote, and we had to meet with Jerry Moran and ask him for his vote. And he didn't have a problem with Trade Promotion Authority. Oh, no. The president ought to have that authority.  He wanted a fundraiser. In return for his vote he wanted the Secretary of Commerce to come into his district to raise him money... Now, you know, at the end of the day we said, you know what - we are not willing to make that kind of quid pro quo.”

It is never appropriate for a member of Congress to solicit personal gain in exchange for an official act.

Never.

I have been honored to fight on behalf of Kansans and our shared conservative values because it’s the right thing to do. Our great state cannot afford a Washington politician who is more interested in his own political career than what’s best for our state and our economy.

I’ve put my reputation on the line countless times on behalf of the unborn, for our Second Amendment rights and for lower taxes. And I’ve run to the sound of the guns when it comes to fighting against the reckless tax-and-spend agenda of the Obama administration. Over the years I’ve taken a lot of criticism because I’ve stood up for conservative principles – even when it wasn’t popular at the time. And I would do it all again.

A lot is at stake with the coming elections, and I hope you will get engaged and consider joining my campaign. Please check out my web site at www.ToddTiahrt.com where you can read about my efforts to fight for lower taxes, less government and more opportunities for Kansas families and small businesses.
