So how do you make a request to Bruce Springsteen? Last tour you could at least make a sign, throw it into the mix and pray, but that’s not how Bruce is rolling this time around (even if “Thundercrack” allegedly made its appearance after a sign request at MSG last night).
I ask not for myself but for Friend of Blogness Elizabeth, who has a pretty good reason for getting her request across. I’ll let her note speak for itself:
I am contacting you in regards to Bruce’s concert this Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills, in Michigan. I am a 22-year-old student at Western Michigan University. The reason behind this email is my last attempt to request a song in honor of my father. My entire family, the Hylands, are born and raised East Coasters! Philadelphia was where I grew up for most of my life; my father went to Jefferson Medical, my mother, Penn State University.
I don’t mean to ramble on about my family (there is a point) … My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 rectal cancer last August (a week before my birthday) and only has a few years left to experience life. The Hylands will be in attendance of his concert THURSDAY in Michigan and I wanted to request a song, if there was any way you could contact “his people.” We wanted to hear “Streets of Philadelphia” in honor of my father — it would be such a blessing. He has grown up listening to Bruce and his band since he was young and before they became famous, playing downtown Philly all the time.
Of course I don’t have a direct line to the Springsteen people, or else I wouldn’t have been in section 310, row 12 at the Boston Garden a few weeks back. But I do suspect (hope?) a few of them check in here now and again. So what say you, Bruce people? Can you get the Boss Elizabeth’s request? Her family would be forever grateful. And Elizabeth … Our best to your dad.
