Scammon dinner
SCAMMON — Knights of Columbus Council 3316 will sponsor a turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Bridget’s Parish Hall, Scammon.
Menu will feature turkey with trimmings, dessert and beverage. Carry-outs will be available. Cost will be $8 for adults, $5 for children aged 7 to 11 and free for those 6 and younger.
Blessing of the Animals
Southeast Kansas Humane Society will host its annual Blessing of the Animals at 2 p.m. at its animal shelter.
Any pet owner who would like to have an animal blessed may bring it, but all pets should be on a leash or in a carrier. Rev. Tom Wehrman of St. John Lutheran Church will be officiating minister, and will also bless the homeless pets in the shelter, pray for deceased animals in the pet cemetery and give special prayers for guidance for shelter staff.
Refreshments will be available for pets and their owners. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the shelter building and the Pawprints on the Heartland spay/neuter van.
The shelter will be open for adoptions.
SEK NOW
Southeast Kansas Chapter, National Organization for Women, will meet at 2 p.m. at the Pittsburg Public Library.
A victim advocate from Safehouse Crisis Center will be present to discuss the organization’s work and how SEK NOW can assist. Time will be allotted for committee meetings.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in women’s issues and advocating for women’s rights.
Country music show
FORT SCOTT — Fort Scott Country Music Show will be held at 2 p.m. at the Fort Scott Memorial Hall.
Special guest will be Kinley Rice, who competed in Fort Scott Idol this year.
Also performing will be the Swingin’ West Band with Bobby DeGonia of the Live Wire Band filling in for Dewayne Bowman on guitar; Ginelle Esry, vocalist; Scotty Henderson, steel guitar and vocalist; Gale Richey, keyboard and vocalist; Ronnie Blecher, drummer; Ernie Reed, fiddle; Randy Vanderpool, bass guitar and vocalist; and Jason Richison, sound system, guitar and vocalist.
Admission will be $10 at the door. Persons 15 and younger will be admitted free.
