Stage presence

During the month of March, students at Pittsburg High School and Pittsburg Community Middle School proved again why USD 250 features two of the finest theatre programs in the area.

The PHS Theatre Department became one of the first in the nation to perform "Legally Blonde: The Musical." One of the most popular musicals in recent history, "Legally Blonde" featured a large cast acting, singing and dancing at a mile-a-minute pace.  Senior Gabby Murnan wowed as Elle Woods, the California sorority girl turned Harvard Law graduate. To see the young men and women on stage giving their all for the audience was a great thrill. We could not be more proud of Theatre Director Greg Shaw and all of the students, those in the cast and those behind the scenes.  Performances at PHS never cease to amaze.  It's almost hard to believe that you're watching a school production and not a professional acting troupe.

A week later, the PCMS Amateur Theatrical Society performed the comedy "Kodiak Flapjack," which told the story of an Alaskan outdoorsman who becomes the head of a ritzy, all-girl school in Connecticut. Filled with funny one-liners and a wide array of characters, the play was as interesting as it was humorous.  Even at their young age, the middle school students displayed a knack for the craft that makes us all hope that they continue to command the stage at the high school level. Director Joella Reid does a fantastic job with the PCMS actors, and we're very proud and excited about the work they do.
