Pittsburg State is filling your Twitter feed

If you ever want to feel older than you really are, just try to keep up with technology. It’s amazing how quickly things change, and how quickly you can fall behind … oftentimes without even knowing it.

I remember chuckling to my teenage self about the difficulty my grandparents seemed to have with something as seemingly simple as setting the clock on their VCR. “I’ll never have that type of trouble with technology,” I said smugly to myself. Of course, that was before I reached the age of 40 and discovered the world of Twitter.

I recently passed my one-year anniversary of being a semi-active part of the Twitter-verse (359 Tweets), but I still find myself learning new things every day.

For those who’ve never been a part of Twitter, it’s a little like walking into a party in the middle of a conversation. You’re not quite certain who these people are, or if you’re even in the right place, but you can’t help but become interested in some of the chatter.

Much like any party, there were many conversations that I just didn’t care about. (There are only so many times I need to know about your yummy breakfast yogurt) But I quickly moved past those topics and discovered people who seemed to have interests similar to my own.

I found fellow Gorilla fans who love their university and are happy to show their pride daily. I discovered media professionals who, almost daily, provided insights into their craft that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. And, of course, I began following people who I just think are pretty cool, Mitch Holthus, PSU Coach Lane Lord … and my favorite, Steve Martin.

One of the first “people” I began to follow was Pittsburg State University. It turned out to be the perfect way for me to stay up to date on everything Gorilla.

Special events, alumni gatherings, breaking news, photographs, video feeds … I was able to get it all on my phone, and best of all, I could ask questions if I had them.

If you haven’t yet joined the Twitter conversation, I encourage you to try it out. It’s not as scary as you think …. and it’s certainly easier than setting the time on a VCR!
