Olympic Lessons for the Workplace

Each day during the Olympics, I’ll post a nugget relating a value of sportsmanship and the Olympics to your professional life.

Today’s Olympic Nugget: Let the success of others encourage you to work harder and dig deeper.

We've seen it happen a few times now during these Olympic Games. Athletes that are relatively unknown in the world arena are breaking records in heats and semifinals, and some are going on to win a gold medal (way to go, Ms. Meilutyte!). These intense bursts of effort with intimidating results send a message to their competitors: step it up!

While it doesn't necessarily make sense for professionals to view their peers as competition, we can get the same kick in the rear as athletes to step it up when we see someone with similar abilities and ambition achieve something of importance to them. Let the successes of your peers inspire you to dig deeper within yourself and work harder.

Have any of your peers had successes lately? How can their successes make you dig deeper?
