Dear Editor
According to a recent article in The Morning Sun, the city administrator, Gary Emry, suggested the utility rates in Girard be raised “between $1 and $3” so the children of Girard to swim for free. Why should I have to pay for someone else’s kids to swim? If the pool doesn’t generate enough revenue to be support itself, then raise the rates. The pool has been a “cheap” baby-sitter for decades. If the parents do not want to pay a rate allowing the pool to be self-supporting, then perhaps they are willing to pay a “real” baby-sitter by the hour. If raising the pool rates isn’t feasible, then I have another suggestion. As demonstrated in the past, leaders of the community are not adverse to taking from one department coffers to support another department. I suggest that everybody who plays around of golf, be charged green fees. ( Have been led to believe some people do not have to pay to play). No more free golf for anyone! I urge the citizens of Girard to unite. Don’t let the city shove another extra expense down your throat.
