Dear editor:
In about three weeks, Kansans will go to the polls for an important election. Yes, the national and the state elections are crucial to the nation and to the state. But there is another race that is critical for all of the Kansas.

The State Board of Education receives little of the publicity of other races, and perhaps we should be glad. After several years of national embarrassment, a majority of State Board members interested in quality public schools for every child is firmly in charge. Jana Shaver is part of that sensible majority and should be re-elected.

Jana Shaver knows good education. She has spent a career as a teacher and curriculum director, experiences valuable with the real work of the State Board. Her philosophy is simple: To provide to all students the best education that Kansans can afford.

Jana Shaver also knows good schools because of her continued accessibility. During her 4-year term she was a frequent visitor at schools and school events. She attended a number of local Board of Education meetings to stay in touch with those decision makers. She listens to teachers, to administrators, to parents, to students, and patrons.

At this critical time in Kansas education, we need more leaders like Jana Shaver. People who care about children, about school districts, about the welfare of all Kansas.

A vote for Jana Shaver is a vote for knowledge, honesty, and humility.
Sincerely,

Tony White
