For his courageous act last month that possibly saved a young infant’s life, Frontenac native Adam Lusker was recognized by the Frontenac Fire Department during a special presentation Monday at the Frontenac City Council meeting.

On the afternoon of Oct. 15, Lusker put his life on the line when he entered a burning home at 106 W. McKay to pull a 5-month-old girl from a couch on which she was lying. After the fire had broken out in the home’s kitchen, tenant Teresa Harper and friend Jeanette Roberts quickly ran outside, leaving the young girl exposed to the heavy smoke.

Lusker, who had been working across the street at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, entered the home three times before finally finding the girl and running her outside to safety. Nearly everyone involved with the situation says Lusker saved the child’s life.

Monday evening, Frontenac Fire Chief John Zafuta and firefighter Justin Ziesenis presented Lusker with a plaque to honor his heroics. Zafuta described Lusker as a “true community hero” who went “above and beyond his civic duty.”
