After finishing second at the Parsons Invitational last week, the Pittsburg High School tennis team still felt that they had more to prove.
Consider that solved.
The Dragons won the Labette County Invitational on Thursday as No. 2 singles player Sara Verga won her division title by going 5-0.
The No. 2 doubles team of Lindsay Collar and Chapril Stewart also captured their division title by going 4-0 in their bracket.
Erin Farmer, the No. 1 singles player, finished second and suffered just one loss, an 8-2 decision to Chapman of Coffeyville.
With the win, the Dragons moved their dual record on the season to 7-2 as PHS swept through all five opponents.
“All our kids played with character and never gave in,” said PHS head coach John Seal.
No. 1 doubles team Sammy Highfield and Shelby Trimble suffered just one loss in their bracket, an 8-2 loss to Labette County Red.
The Dragons were 15-2 in matches played.
“Finishing first or second in every division is all that a coach could ask for,” Seal said.
Now, the Dragons will travel to Kansas City Christian for the KC Christian Invitational on Saturday morning.
