Kansas officials are waiting to see whether October's tax collections create fresh budget problems.
The Department of Revenue was expected to release preliminary figures Friday afternoon on tax collections for the month.
Tax collections in July, August and September fell $67 million below the forecast that helped shape the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.
Gov. Mark Parkinson said this week he's prepared to make additional spending cuts year to keep the budget balanced through June 2010.
The governor made cuts and other budget adjustments in July to head off a deficit in the current fiscal year.
