How does your garden grow?

My grandparents were masters when it came to gardening. The back half of their spacious backyard overflowed with vegetable plants — lettuce, beans, potatoes, okra, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, and a gooseberry plant or two (which I gave a wide berth because of the sticker-y branches and I didn’t care for the fruit. Still don’t). My grandmother then canned or froze all that produce, as well as fruit they picked from the orchard in Parker, which then fed them the rest of the year. Some years they rented a garden plot elsewhere in town so they could grow even more produce. They had the greenest of thumbs and we got to reap the fruits — and vegetables — of their labor.
