Bud and Barbara Clingan

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Clingan of rural Parsons observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday. Bud Clingan and Barbara Cook were married Nov. 6, 1959, by Judge John H. Hemphill in Erie, after Bud was honorably discharged from the Navy. Mr. Clingan worked at various places over the years, beginning at age 12 at Jones Grocery Store in Erie. He later worked at the Neosho Valley Creamery for two years, Princess Homes in Parsons, Joey Drilling Co. as the bookkeeper and Burlington Coats in Chanute as its bookkeeper. He retired in 1999 after 37 years at Ankortite, currently called Dayton Superior. He is a member of the Machinists Union and received an associate’s degree in business and industrial supervision from Labette Community College. He served as deacon and treasurer at Calvary Baptist Church in Parsons. Mrs. Clingan is a licensed cosmetologist and worked in Chanute and Parsons salons.
The couple have one son, Stan Clingan of Parsons; two daughters, Jill Hawn of Webb City, Mo., and Karen Shearer of Arcadia; six grandchildren, Miranda Morris and Derick Hawn of Webb City, Kyle and Tyler Clingan of Parsons and Skye and Summer Shearer of Arcardia; and a great-grandson, Connor Morris of Webb City. The couple was honored with a 50th anniversary cake decorated by her cousin, Cathy Walters of Aurora, Colo., at a recent family reunion and a family dinner at the Olive Garden in Joplin.
The couple requests no gifts, but cards, letters or pictures may be sent to 15645 40th Road, Parsons.
