John & Vola Marie Rogers, Jr. of Pittsburg & Weir, were married Nov. 11, 1939 at Joplin. The have lived in Pittsburg all of their married life. John was born in Scammon, KS, Nov. 16, 1918, moved to Mindenmines, Mo. in 1929 & Pittsburg in 1934, attended Pittsburg High School & graduated in 1936. John worked 4 years in Brinkman’s Flower Shop & driving the city bus. John then started work as a Locomotive Fireman KCS in 1940 & was drafted in the Army in 1944 through 1946, serving in the ETO. After discharge, John returned to the Railroad & was promoted to an Engineer until retiring in 1980 after 40 years of service. Vola graduated from Weir High School in 1939. She was Valedictorian of her Class. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring from Mackey Clements in 1981. John & Vola have two daughters, Linda Richardson of Pittsburg & Pamela Potter of Overland Park, 4 grand-daughters, Tysha VanBecelaere & Polly Cecro of Pittsburg, Candis Diddel of Overland Park, Amy Schmutz of Baton Rouge, LA & eight great-grandsons & great-granddaughters of Pittsburg, Overland Park & Kansas University. The couple plans to celebrate at a later date.
