Here is an interesting thought following up with the Springfield Sport, Boat and RV Show at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds last week.
In 2007, this travel columnist/ CVB director participated in the Tulsa Sport, Boat and Travel Show for the first time distributing travel and visitor information about Pittsburg and Crawford County to potential tourists at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds.
Perhaps one out of every 10 comments at the show in 2007 had something negative to say regards to visiting Kansas and what Kansas had to offer to potential visitors.
Having never participated in a trade show in Springfield before, it was tough to predict the reception from potential tourists in Missouri.
During the three-day show that saw an estimated 5,000-plus visitors roll through the doors, only two visitors took shots at the Kansas tourism industry — and as a courtesy, I’ll refrain from sharing them. If you really want to know, ask me sometime.
The show reinforced what I strongly believed about Missouri residents when it comes to travel and tourism — they get it, they really understand the importance of travel and tourism.
