Courtney Shanholtzer and Mike Burks were united in marriage Sept. 27, 2008, at the First Christian Church, Girard. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Doug Amend. Parents of the bride are Phil and Patty Shanholtzer, McCune, and the late Lisa Shanholtzer. Parents of the groom are Dexter and Patty Burks, Girard. The bride’s grandparents are Charles and Kathryn Shanholtzer, McCune, Joann Westhosff, Nevada, Mo., and William Westhoff, Springfield, Mo. The groom’s grandparents are Dexter and Shirley Burks, Farlington, and the late Joe and Jeanie Nepote. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless chantilly lace with an ecru satin sash embellished with a jeweled broach belonging to her great grandmother Shanholtzer. The bride carried a bouquet of Leonidas roses, orange lilies, brown cymbidium orchids, alstromeria lilies, and miniature sunflowers. Kari Burks, Topeka, served as Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids were Joyce Johnson, Farlington, Amanda Portwood, Moundville, Mo., and Beth Shanholtzer, Wamego, Kan. They wore mocha strapless tea length dresses with ecru sashes. Kale Johnson, Farlington, served as Best Man. Groomsmen were Judd Bailey, Girard, Mike Montey, Salina, Kan., and Jim Dooley, Concordia, Kan. Ushers were Jeff Cleland, Arma, Chayse Shanholtzer and Chance Shanholtzer, McCune, and Peter Kraft, St. John, Kan. Heather Harryman was guest book attendant. Soloist John Womeldorff sang Come Share the Lord during the service of communion and lighting of the unity candle, accompanied by Marjorie Murphy. Sara Amend handed out bubbles to the guests. Linda Crocker was the bride’s personal attendant. A pre-wedding luncheon was served to the bride’s attendants before the ceremony prepared by Ann Beezley-Timi. A dinner and dance followed at Parrot Bey, Pittsburg. A buffet supper was served by Joe J. Nepote and family. Hostesses for the reception were Wayne and Diane Schasteen, Fort Scott, Rex and Brenda Kness, Girard, Tami Cooper, Pittsburg, Kay Gobl, John Price, Dennis and Joyce Tassi, and Paula and Pete Stewart, all of Arma. Cake and punch were served by Becky Shanholtzer, McCune, Cindy Burger, Parsons, Rachel Shanholtzer, Kansas City, Dot Parker, Bonner Springs. The couple honeymooned in Las Vegas during the National Finals Rodeo with friends and family in December. The bride is employed by Prairie Pride, Inc., as a grain merchandiser and the groom is the owner-operator of Mike Burks Trucking.
