Presbyterian Church will host a six-week campaign for spiritual growth through the Lenten season, Feb. 14 to March 27.
Theme for the campaign will be based on the book “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat” by Rev. John Ortberg, pastor of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, Menlo Park, Calif., a noted author and speaker.
The church will have an information meeting and free lunch at 11:30 a.m. Sunday to kick off the campaign. Copies of the book will be available, with free-will donations accepted to help defray the cost of the books. There will also be a short program to introduce the campaign and its opportunities.
“Yes, we know it is Super Bowl Sunday, but what better way to kick off the campaign than to join with friends for a free lunch,” said Roger McCune, church member and campaign organizer.
Participants are encouraged to read a few pages of the book each day, and there will also be prepared devotional lessons for each day during the campaign.
“This is a fun and encouraging part of the campaign as we all work together to read and study the same materials and to strive for spiritual growth together,” McCune said.
Rev. K.O. Noonoo will preach a six-week sermon series based on the weekly theme in the book. There are two worship services available, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Weekly themes will be “What Is Water-Walking?”, “The Tragedy of an Unopened Gift,” “Finding Your Calling and Getting Your Feet Wet,” “Facing Your Challenges,” “Conquering Your Fears,” “Good News for Cave Dwellers” and “Learning to Wait on God.”
Small groups will also meet once a week for six weeks to study the same materials with a video and discussion guide. There are currently eight small groups to choose from that meet at various times during the week.
Anyone needing additional information may call the church office at 231-2920 or visit www.pittpres.org.
