Pittsburg High School music students under the direction of Megan Gabehart, instrumental teacher, and Susan Laushman, vocal music teacher, recently auditioned for District Honor Ensembles.
There are approximately 32 high schools in the Southeast Kansas District that participated in the auditions. According to the rules of the Kansas Music Educators Association, every participating high school is guaranteed one participant in the District Honors Ensemble, regardless of scoring. More than 20 SEK high schools will send one musician to district this year.
However, PHS will be represented by impressive numbers, according to Gabehart and Laushman.
Instrumental students selected to the District Honor Jazz Band are: Hannah Wolgamott, baritone sax; Kam Konek, first chair trumpet; Samuel Wolgamott, fourth chair trumpet; and Gage Rogers, first chair trombone.
Instrumental students selected for District Honor Band are: Heidi Warlop, seventh chair flute; Tiffany Payne, ninth chair flute; Brandon Shelley, second chair clarinet; Logan Johnson, fifth chair alto sax; Hannah Wolgamott, first chair baritone sax; Kam Konek, seventh chair trumpet; Matt Newport, 11th chair trumpet; Samuel Wolgamott, 12th chair trumpet; Gage Rogers, second chair trombone; and Jake Letner, second chair tuba.
PHS vocal music program will have the largest showing of students in the Southeast Kansas District Honor Choir. A total of 26 PHS Encore members have been selected for the choir. They are Mason Bayliss, Benita Boehm, Ethan Bradshaw, Robin Brummitt, Jordan Daniels, Anna Ewing, Jessica Gilliland, Hannah Hashman, Dustin Highfield, Mariah Laman, Lydia McKinney, Alex McNay, Kevin McNay, Chelsea Montgomery, Kaylin Moser, Gabby Murnan, Hayden Parks, Alison Percy, Megan Peters, Sophia Samuel, Mollie Stephens, Brett Thomas, Tyler West, Kylie Wilber, Josh Wilde and Mackenzie Willis.
