Walnut Library will have a reading at 6 p.m. Oct. 23. Susan Mundell Waring will discuss her recently published book titled “Searching for a Special Place,” which includes comments on Walnut. Waring, the daughter of Don and Dorothy Mundell, grew up on a farm five miles south of Stark and now lives with her husband at Great Falls, Mont.

Walnut Community Center will sponsor a fall festival on Oct. 27. There will be changes this year. A search for the Great Pumpkin is planned, and there will be no hayrack ride this year.
There will be a community breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on the first and second Sunday of each month, with proceeds going for Labor Day activities.

Walnut American Legion will have a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month.
