A “Spring Fling for Senior Citizens,” a four-week recreational horseback riding session, will be offered April 3, 10, 24 and May 1 by the Horses of Hope Riding Center, rural Baxter Springs.
Specially trained horses will be provided by the center to serve as a recreational opportunity for seniors who are mobile. Riders who are 55 or older qualify for this program, but riders must have permission from their physician to participate.
Horses of Hope will provide riders with the necessary medical/release forms to participate in the spring riding session.
“Benefits of horseback riding include improved balance, flexibility and stamina,” said Shelly McColm, center director. “Riding serves as a low impact exercise good for arthritis, mental health and overall wellness.”
Each riding session will run for 30 minutes, and riders will be in groups no larger than three. Outdoor riding will be available on nice spring days, or in the indoor heated arena if weather is bad.
Cost will be $20 per ride or $70 for the entire month if purchased in advance. Anyone needing additional information or wishing to enroll in the program may call Horses of Hope at 620-674-3458 or e-mail hoh@cktnet.
