The community was saddened by the loss of Josephine Guy and extend sympathy to her family. She and Lloyd Guy have lived in Walnut for years.
Jack and Pearl Modica were in Wichita over the weekend to attend the funeral of their sister-in-law, Angie Modica.
Walnut American Legion will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Menu features pancakes, sausage and eggs.
Robert Madl is a patient at Labette County Medical Center, Parsons. The community wishes him a speedy recovery.
Walnut Library has several new books and movies. The library also offers free use of computers and the Internet.
Farlington
Church attendance was down on Jan. 31 because of weather, with 23 adults and 13 children attending. After church, James Marsh stopped at Chicken Annie’s in Girard and took his daughter, Joyce Purson and son-in-law Dennis some hot chicken.
Billy and Kim Green brought Bob and Dorothy Noe their dinner. In the afternoon, Les and Debbie Wagner, Moran, and Butch and Tammy Williams, Girard, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Noe, then went to see Roy Noe.
There were 56 in church on Feb. 7, including 22 children. Amanda Wilkins, daughter of Dr. James Wilkins and wife Sandy, accepted the quarter money from the children for medical supplies to go to Haiti.
Dominoes were played at the home of George and Carol Davenport, with Tom Pyle, Willadean Bever, James Marsh and Mary Hughes present. Mrs. Davenport was the winner, with her husband in second place.
Becky Willard will help a friend of hers on the Cake Network on the TLC Channel at 6 p.m. or 9 p.m. Monday nights.
Madison Bowersock, Fort Scott, spent the weekend with her great-grandmother, Mary Hughes.
Laughter is a tranquilizer with no side effects.

Kirby Hughes Gould won a vacation trip to Puerto Rico at a ball game. She and husband John Gould have now returned to their home in Olathe. Mrs. Gould is the daughter of Portie (Corporon) and the late Claude Hughes, McPherson.
Gary Peterson, teacher of the JOY Sunday School Class, Arcadia Christian Church, closed the class one Sunday morning with the quote “It is nice to be important, but more important to be nice.” He and his wife, Patty Peterson, took Herman Tyler to the Liberal, Mo., Christian Church Saturday evening to a free gospel concert presented by the Meyer Blue Grass Band, Sheldon, Mo.
On the evening that Santa Claus visited Arcadia, five bicycles were given to those who had their names drawn on Dec. 11. Winners were Anthony Sliger, Emily Watson, Sammy Joe Scholes, Joey McDowell and Aiyana Harrison. The bikes were provided by the City of Arcadia, Bearcat Cafe and Morris Rock.
A group of 12 international students and leaders of Campus Christian from Pittsburg State University were guests Feb. 7 at the Arcadia Christian Church. Don Smith, leader of the group, brought the message in the absence of Pastor David Peterson. Smith is also their regular Sunday school teacher at Countryside Christian Church, Pittsburg. Present were Chang So Oh, Wen Yang, JoA Lee, Fei Fan Chen, who was pianist for the service, Jae Hoon Juny (Jay), Yan Dai, Xiao Xun, who was celebrating her eighth birthday that day, Shuli Lin, Michelle Thomas, Dwight Sauer and Fran Smith. Local guests were Mark Thomas, Arma, and Carol Brooks, Englevale. Thirty attended the dinner following the service. A small cake with candle was presented to the young lady celebrating her birthday. A display was set up with pictures of Campus Christians activities on the PSU campus. Several Arcadia students were active members of the organization while they attended college, including the Briggs sisters and the Parrish and Shead sons and daughters.
Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens February meeting was canceled because of the weather and because several members were away on vacation. Next meeting will be March 8, and all interested persons may attend. A covered dish dinner will be served at noon, with blood pressure readings taken by a representative from Arma Care Center. A short business session is held, followed by bingo.
Arcadia High School Our Gang will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Arcadia Community Center. Chicken will be ordered from Gebhardt’s, so those wishing to attend should notify Pat and Leroy Wright, 620-347-8193.
