Weir Public Library Board holds meeting

Weir Public Library Board met Nov. 12 with members Margaret Sullivan, Karen Thompson, Roxy Blessent and Stef Arbuckle present.
A workshop on “Legal Issues and Your Library” was presented for trustee certification.
Notification was received from SEK-CAP that the library was awarded a grant for lendable materials in the amount of $2,871.61 from the American Recovery Reinvestment Act.
The library will be able to enhance the DVD collection, purchase quality hard-bound juvenile books and develop an audio book collection on CD.
Scrapbooking expert Karen Thompson will have a free make-it and take-it Christmas card workshop for younger and older library patrons from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the library. Those wishing to participate should make reservations by calling 620-396-8899 between 1 and 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Nathan Barnes, Eagle Scout candidate from Boy Scout Troop 74, Columbus, has begun his community service project at the library. He and other Troop 74 scouts tore down the walls of the unused office in the library and have begun painting the interior.
Preschool story time  is being held from 10:30 to 11:39 a.m. Tuesdays in the library activity area. No registration is needed to attend.
Books new to the adult shelves are “The Silent Gift” by Michael Landon Jr., “The Perfect Christmas” by Debbie Macomber, “Shades of Blue” by Karen Kingsbury, “Bed of Roses” by Nora Roberts, “True Blue” by David Baldacci, “The Moon Looked Down” by Dorothy Garlock, “Happiness Key” by Emilee Richards, “Love Mercy” by Earlene Fowler, “The Neighbor” by Lisa Gardner, “Kindred in Death” by J.D. Robb, “Rainwater” by Sandra Brown, “Ford Country” by John Grisham, “The Loners: The Devil’s Badland” by J.A. Johnstone, and “Ice” by Linda Howard.
New to the juvenile shelves are “Candor” by Pam Bachorz and “Under the Snow” by Melissa Stewart.
