Dance workshop

Jody Phillips Dance Company will have a summer dance workshop featuring instruction in a variety of dance styles, including jazz, hip hop, contemporary, funk, lyrical, modern, funk and ballet.
Check-in will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with classes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be a lunch break from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Instructors will include Lucky, who has appeared in several music videos for hip hop artists Dillon Chase and was a finalist of “So You Think You Can Dance” in Orlando, Fla.; Karen Schongar, member and choreographer for two professional  dance companies, Seamless Dance Theatre and Quixotic performance Fusion; Lexi Rosenbach, who danced professionally in the show “Legends in Concert” in Branson, Mo., and was part of an international tour group that performed for U.S. military troops; and Christina Burton, choreographer for Starlight Theater’s STARS program and an instructor for Today’s Talent Network.

Church sale
A rummage and bake sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Breakfast and lunch will be available.
Cinnamon rolls, funnel cakes, hot dogs, Frito pie, ham sandwiches and more will be served. Frozen cookie dough will also be available.

Spaghetti dinner
ARMA — Arma American Legion Post 182 will serve a spaghetti dinner, open to the public, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Menu will feature spaghetti, meatballs, tossed salad and garlic toast. Carry-outs will be available. Cost will be a $6 donation.

Pittsburg Farmers Market
Pittsburg Farmers Market will be held from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Second and Broadway.
Pittsburg Police Department will be present to hand out informational pamphlets during the market.
Produce available at the market will include blueberries, new potatoes, green beans, beets, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini and more. Also available will be free range eggs, natural meat products, local honey, jams, jellies, bread, bakery items, bedding plants, perennials, wood outdoor furniture, garden trellises, jewelry, books, soy candles and other hand-crafted items.
Credit, debit and Vision cards are accepted.

Diabetes walk
McCUNE — McCune Lions Club will sponsor a diabetes walk, with registration at  8 a.m. at McColm’s Pecan Grove. The one-mile walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. Donations for diabetes will be appreciated.
Those wishing to reach McColm’s Pecan Grove should travel on 126 Highway to 87th Street, then go one mile south, or go one mile east of the Osage Church, then turn right. The grove is on the west side of the road.

Girard Farmers Market
GIRARD — Girard Farmers Market will open at 7:30 a.m. Cash drawings will be held at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Food Share America
Food Share America orders for July will be taken from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the west gym door of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Food Share America is a non-profit food purchasing program that offers savings because of volunteer help and no overhead expenses. Food is purchased from the same companies that sell to grocery stores.

VFW Auxiliary
Albert M.  Wheeler Veterans of Foreign Wars 1158 Auxiliary will meet at 9:30  a.m. at the post home. Effie Toney, president, will be in charge.
Members are asked to bring the  Best Choice labels they have collected, along with coupons for those serving overseas.

Football, cheerleading
Registration for football and cheerleading for Pittsburg USD 250 students in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Meadowbrook Mall.

Book signing
Topeka author Reaona Hemmingway will sign copies of her books from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pittsburg Hastings Store.
She has written several novels, including “Baseball Card Hero,” “September 11” and “Mariah,” as well as “Home for Christmas,” a collection of short stories.

Gospel Fellowship
Pittsburg Chapter 650, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, will meet at Lincoln Center.
Banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. Meal reservations are necessary, at a cost of $7. They may be made by calling Joe Bartlett at 231-1844. Meeting will follow at 7 p.m. It will be open free to all interested men, women and youth, with no reservations needed.
Speaker will be Steven Snider. He and his wife, Marilyn Miles, were married at the First Assembly of God in Pittsburg, and were very active in the local church as youth pastors, Sunday school superintendent, teacher, children’s church pastors and board member. They later helped establish a small church, Church of New Beginnings, which they pastored for three years.
Later they were part of starting another church, Family Life Assembly of God (FLAG), serving as teacher, worship leader, musician and board member. They currently serve FLAG as Royal Ranger leader for boys aged 6-11, usher and board member.
