A group of Weems’ college-age friends decided to take him on the trip of a lifetime in July 2005, renting a wheelchair-accessible RV for a three-week, cross-country trip. Their major goal was to reach Los Angeles and convince the MTV show “Pimp My Ride” to customize Weems’ wheelchair.
The adventure was filmed, and the documentary became the most decorated movie of 2007, winning 28 film festival awards.
