Holiday concert

“Home for the Holidays,” a free public concert featuring the Southeast Kansas Symphony and Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble, will be presented at 2 p.m. at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.

First portion of the program will be a traditional band concert. Second half will feature the wind ensemble and the symphony orchestra in a program of holiday music, including an audience sing-along.

Warm apple cider and cookies will be served following the concert.

Chicopee party
CHICOPEE — Annual holiday party and dinner will be held at noon at the Chicopee Community Center for members of the Chicopee Foundation.

Memberships will be available at the door.

Weir Senior Citizens
WEIR — Weir Senior Citizens will get together from 1 to 3 p.m.  for crocheting and quilting. Snacks will be provided.

‘Annie’
St. Mary’s Colgan Drama Department will present the musical “Annie” at 2:30 p.m. in the SMC auditorium.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students. SMC students will be admitted free, but will need to obtain a ticket because seating is limited.

Country music show
FORT SCOTT — Fort  Scott Country Music Show will be held at 2 p.m. at the Fort Scott Memorial Hall.

Special guest will be country singer/songwriter Leona Williams, who traveled and performed with Merle Haggard for many years. She also toured with Loretta Lynn and Jean Shepard and played with the Grand Ladies of Branson.

Her songs have been recorded by Haggard, George Jones, Moe Bandy, Randy Travis, Hank Thompson, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Connie Smith and many other artists.

Williams has been inducted into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Missouri Country Music Hall of Fame. She was honored with the Entertainer of the Year Award by the Reunion of Professional Entertainers in 2011.

Also featured in the program will be the Swingin’ West Band with Dewayne Bowman, guitar and vocalist; Ginelle Esry, vocalist; Scotty Henderson, steel guitar and vocalist; Gale Richey, keyboard and vocalist; Ronnie Blecher, drummer; Ernie Reed, fiddle and vocalist; Randy Vanderpool, bass guitar and vocalist; and Jason Richison, sound system, guitar and vocalist.

Admission will be $12.50 at the door. Those 15 and younger will be admitted free.

Collectors show
CARTHAGE, Mo. — Barton-Jasper County Collectors Association will sponsor its 20th annual fall coin, stamp, postcards, sports card and collectibles show from  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carthage, Mo., Memorial Hall.

Admission is free. Dealers from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas will offer 53 tables of items.

Arma cantata
ARMA — Arma Community Choir will present its 2012 Christmas service, open to all surrounding communities, at 6 p.m.  at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Arma.

The choir will also present an additional performance at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Frontenac United Methodist Church.

The choir, comprised of men and women from throughout the area, will sing a cantata titled “Heaven’s Child” by Pepper Choplin.

Prelude music will be played before the service. Refreshments will follow the cantata in the parish hall.

A free will offering will be collected. All proceeds will be used to provide food baskets and other needed items to families currently experiencing a hardship in the community.
