AARP board

Crawford County AARP Chapter 646 board of directors and committee chairmen will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center to plan October programs and conduct other business.

Martha Roberts, president, will preside.

UCT
United Commercial Travelers of America, a fraternal organization, will have a monthly meeting at 4 p.m. at the Mall Deli.

‘Banned Books Bingo’
In honor of Banned Books Week, the Pittsburg Public Library has invited young adults in sixth through 12th grades to play “Banned Books Bingo” at 4 p.m. This is a special version of bingo that uses the titled of banned or challenged books instead of numbers.

Given out as prizes will be banned or challenged books such the current favorite series “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, as well as “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie and others.

Banned books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Since its inception in 1982, BBW has worked to spotlight the issue of censorship in schools and public libraries.

BBW is sponsored by the American Booksellers Association, American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, American Library Association, American Society of Journalists and Authors, Association of American Publishers, National Association of College Stores and is endorsed by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Alpha Kappa chapter
ARMA — Alpha Kappa Chapter, Phi Tau Omega sorority, will have a monthly business meeting at the home of Susan Herrell with Kathy Puckett as co-hostess.

Members unable to attend should contact one of the hostesses.

Chicopee card games
Card games will be played from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. very Wednesday, except holidays, at the Chicopee Community Center.

All card games are welcome. Bridge players do not need to bring a partner, since the game is set up so that everyone plays, even when there is an odd number of players.

Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet every Wednesday at the Homer Cole Community Center. Weigh-in starts at 5 p.m., followed by the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
