A series of fundraising events is being planned for Diana Gorham, who was recently diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer and will be traveling to the University of Kansas Medical Center for surgery and treatment.

First event will be the “No One Fights Alone!” cancer benefit 5K run/walk, scheduled Oct. 13 at the Raider Sports Complex, Frontenac.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the run starting at 8 p.m.  Cost will be $20, which includes a T-shirt. There will also be a fun run around the track for youngsters at a cost of $10.

Age groups will be under 9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus. Prizes will go to the top finisher in each age group for men and women.

Next will be a shuffleboard tourney/silent auction at 2 p.m. Oct. 14  in Pickled Pete’s, downtown Frontenac. Teams may be registered by contacting Mary Warrick at 620-249-9111 or mwarrick@frontenac249.org. Cash prizes will be awarded.

A pancake fundraiser is planned Nov. 3 at Applebee’s in Pittsburg. Tickets will be pre-sold and walk-ins will also be welcome.

A Frontenac Junior High dance party will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Frontenac Senior Citizens Building. Entry donations will be accepted at the door.

Additional activities will be announced later by Team Diana, a group of Gorham’s friends. Team leaders are Cassie Buche, Mary Warrick, Lisa Alex and Debbie Long.
