Pittsburg Family YMCA will launch its annual membership drive Friday with a luncheon at the YMCA, according to Jack Bache, YMCA executive director.
General section of the campaign has a goal of $350,000 in memberships, while the adult-for-youth section has a goal of $20,000.
Bache said that the adult for youth memberships allow the organization to offer several programs for special interest groups that would otherwise not be possible and to keep youth program fees at an affordable level.
“The Pittsburg Family YMCA supported over 2,532 underprivileged youth with scholarship memberships during 2011,” Bache added. “This figure is at an all-time high and continues to grow on a weekly basis. In addition, more than 500 youth participate in programs at no charge.”
The YMCA extends scholarships to a total of 3,825 individuals, including youth and adults.
In a recent survey of Kansas YMCA organizations, the Pittsburg YMCA was found to have the lowest family membership fees of any YMCA in the state.
“We take pride in the fact that our YMCA offers a great deal to the community at a considerably lower cost than other YMCAs,” Bache said.
Jeff Wilbert is drive chairman, and Renee Pace is co-chairman. Peggy Bennett chairs the YMCA Membership Committee. Serving as co-captains for the campaign are Debbie Bridwell, Brenda Chappell, Mark Werner, Renee Pace, Judy Westhoff, Helen Broyles, Peggy Bennett and Mattye Foxx.
Report meetings will be held at the YMCA on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18. Victory luncheon is scheduled for Jan. 25.
