Pittsburg Area Young Professionals contributed more than 200 service hours in an effort to give back to the community over the holiday season.
The group has participated in various projects, including bell ringing and money counting for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army toy distribution event and the KOAM TV Toy Box drive.
Group members also assisted Mother to Mother Ministry with its fundraising gift wrapping campaign at Meadowbrook Mall.
“The volunteers from PAYP provide an invaluable service to the Salvation Army and the community during the holidays,” said Capt. Gary Gugala. “They help make our campaigns successful, which in turn allows us to serve those in need. We’re eternally grateful for their commitment to this cause.”
Jaime Vanderbeck, incoming PAYP president, said the group enjoys helping local organizations such as the Salvation Army and Mother to Mother Ministry that are in need of volunteers to help them be successful in their holiday campaigns.
“PAYP is happy to step in and help,” she said. “This is the time of year to which we most look forward. To get to help in so many different ways during the holidays is a great thrill. We love being able to help and serve our community during this time of year, and I couldn’t be more proud of our membership for all that they do.”
According to Brett Dalton, PAYP service chairman, 58 members contributed at least one hour of community service this holiday season. Although the group focuses on community service year-round, the holiday season is a time when members really feel they can give back to the community.
“We pride ourselves on service to the community, and never is that more true than during the holiday season,” Dalton said. “I’m extremely proud of our members for giving so much of their time and energy to give back to those who need it most during this time of year.”
