Girard blood drive

GIRARD — American Red Cross bloodmobile will be at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, 106 S. Western, Girard, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time when the American Red Cross recognizes and thanks the millions of dedicated blood donors across the country for helping ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need.

All blood types are needed. A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (or 16 with parental consent in Kansas), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. High school students and other donors 18 or younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Sunflower Kiwanis
Sunflower Kiwanis Club will meet at 6:45 a.m. in dePaul Hall, Via Christi Hospital. Lindy Lawson, president, will conduct a short business session and report on the 6 a.m. board meeting.

Program chairman Roger Wood has invited Sandra Dietz of American Home Patient and Sue Lutz of Via Christi Sleep Lab to speak on the health problem of sleep apnea.

Red Hat Belles
Arma Red Hat Belles will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at the Eastside Cafe,  Girard. Hostesses will be Betty Brunk, Muriel Stroud and Madeline McAllister.

Those attending should remember to wear their red or pink hats.

Veterans representative
A veterans representative will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center, 3003 N. Joplin. Anyone having any questions may call the center at 231-9773.

New Beginnings
New Beginnings, a social fellowship and dinner for widows, will meet at 11 a.m. at the Corner Bistro, 406 N. Locust. Mattye Foxx is chairman.

All widows, new and old, may attend.

Rotary Club
Rotary Club will meet at noon in dePaul Hall, Via Christi Village.

Bobby Winters will give the invocation, and Judy Westhoff will be song leader.  Andy Meyers will have introductions, and Shane Kannarr will serve as sergeant at arms.

Senior dance
A senior dance will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center.

Area musicians will provide music. There will be a $1 fee, and those attending are asked to bring finger foods. The center will provide coffee and punch.

Lions Club
Pittsburg Lions Club will have a board meeting at 6 p.m. in the Sheridan Room, Via Christi Hospital.

Chapter CP, PEO
Chapter CP, PEO, will meet at 10 a.m. at the home of Terri Allen with Mary Askins and Dorothy Riggs assisting.

Allen will give an update on the PCE project. Guest speaker will be Shelly McColm, executive director of the Horses of Hope Riding Center. She will discuss the equine-assisted therapeutic services provided in southeast Kansas and the surrounding four-state area.

Chapter AQ, PEO
Chapter AQ, PEO, will meet at noon at the home of Ann Elliott. Co-hostesses will be Shirley Thomas, Karen Odgers, Patti Thomas and Kim Plouvier.

Program on “Teen Pregnancy” will be given by Krista Smith and Joan Hobbs.

Chapter IO, PEO
Chapter IO, PEO, will meet at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church with Marilyn Tindel and Julianna Rieschick as co-hostesses.

A program titled “Stories from Our Chapters’ Past” will be presented in honor of Founders Day by Kay Holsinger and Dee Ann Felter.

Chapter CJ, PEO
Chapter CJ, PEO, will have a Founders’ Day meeting at 4 p.m. at 1916 Messenger Circle with Peggy Snyder as hostess. Co-hostesses will be Pat Waltrip and Amanda Minton.

Karen Bowen will present the Founders’ Day program. Chapter dues are now payable.

Scottish Rite
FORT SCOTT — Coffee and doughnuts will be served at 8 a.m. every Tuesday at the Scottish Rite Center, 110 S. Main, Fort Scott.

There will be no set agenda or predetermined topic, simply conversation among friends. Everyone is welcome to attend,  and need not be Scottish Rite members or Masons.  Men attending are welcome to bring their wives or friends.

ARMA TOPS
ARMA — The ARMA TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Chapter meetings include private weigh-in, information on good nutrition, educational programs and moral support and encouragement to help members reach their weight loss goals.

Arma bingo
ARMA — Arma American Legion will have bingo night, starting with early bird games at 6:30 p.m. Regular games will follow immediately after the early bird games.

Elks bingo
Pittsburg Elks Lodge will host bingo night, open to the public. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with card sales at 5:30 p.m. and mini games at 6 p.m.  Regular games begin at 6:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.
