Artists talk
Andrew Castro, artist and curator of the exhibit “We Meet in Iowa,” and two artists with work in the exhibit will present free public lectures at 5 p.m. in room 409, Russ Hall, Pittsburg State University.
The exhibit, which closing today, has been on view since Nov. 19 in the University Gallery, Porter Hall.
Following the talks by Castro and artists Matthew Derole and Angela Deiffenbach will be a reception at 6 p.m. in Porter Hall.
The exhibit featured ceramic works in a variety of classical subject matter, from elaborate sculptural pieces to wood-fired vessels rich with textural interest.
Frontenac Rotary
Frontenac Rotary Club will meet at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac. Steve Robb will speak on the SEK Artfest planned in May.
Anna Gudde will be Rotarian of the day, Joe Sinnett will be greeter, and serving as sergeant at arms will be Dale Slagle. Lunch will feature meatloaf.
Bingo
Medicalodge will host bingo at 1 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center. Anyone needing additional information may call the center at 231-9773.
MovieMakers meeting
Pittsburg Public Library will host a MovieMakers program at 3 p.m. in the Young Adult Studio.
The program, open free to anyone in sixth through 12th grade, will feature a demonstration of green screen technology, a special effects technique that films actors against a blue or green screen and later adds computerized graphics to the film. Teens will have an opportunity to participate in this process.
The PPL MovieMakers program encourages teens to follow their own interests in the movie making process, whether it be writing, directing, make-up and costumes, set design or editing movies. Anyone needing additional information may call the library at 231-8110 or visit the PPL YA Services Facebook page.
Church dinner
Frontenac United Methodist Church will serve a chicken noodle dinner from 4:30 p.m. until sold out.
Cost will be $6 for adults and $3 for children aged 3 to 12. Beverage and dessert are included. Proceeds will go to the church.
Chicopee card games
Card games will be played from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday, except holidays, at the Chicopee Community Center.
All card games are welcome. Bridge players do not need to bring a partner, since the game is set up so that everyone plays, even when there is an odd number of players.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet every Wednesday at the Homer Cole Community Center. Weigh-in starts at 5 p.m., followed by the meeting at 5:30 p.m.
