The Salvation Army and Wesley House have announced plans for reaching out to low-income Crawford County families during the Christmas season.
For the fifth consecutive year, a partnership has been formed between the two in order to better serve these families.
Families who are in need of food or children’s gifts for the Christmas holiday may apply at either agency from Nov. 9 through Nov. 20. Applications will be taken mornings at the Salvation Army and afternoons at Wesley House. No applications will be taken at either agency after Nov. 20.
When applying families should bring with them a photo ID, Social Security cards for each member of the household, proof of income and proof of residence.
Food and gifts will be distributed Dec. 17 and 18 at the National Guard Armory. Appointments for each family will be made during the application process.
A total of 2,206 individuals in 794 families were served at Christmas in 2008 by the Salvation Army and Wesley House. Ellie Foster, pastor/diretor of Wesley House, and Capt. Gary Gugala of the Salvation Army anticipate that the number will be greater this year because of the increased need in Crawford County.
Donations of money, food and new toys will be required to reach out to these families. Donations may be made at either the Salvation Army, 307 E. Fifth, 231-0415, or Wesley House, 411 E. 12th, 2232-3760.
Volunteer help will also be needed, and those wishing to help should call Casey Brown at Wesley House, 232-3760, ext. 10, or e-mail wesleyhouseumc@yahoo.com.
