Ash Wednesday services
Ash Wednesday services will be held at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 306 W. Euclid.  

Weir Senior Citizens
WEIR — Weir Senior Citizens will meet for lunch from noon to 2 p.m. at the Weir Senior Center, 108 N. Lincoln.

Main dish will be fried chicken. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Table service and beverages will be provided. Those attending are also asked to bring a valentine card for a “sweetheart swap.”
Anyone aged 50 or older may attend. Blood pressure and blood glucose checks will be done from 11 a.m. to noon. Anyone needing additional information may call 620-396-8944.

Alzheimer’s program
John  von  Wedell will present the sixth talk in the Alzheimer’s Family Series at 1:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center, 3003 N. Joplin.
The free discussion, titled “I Should, I Ought, I Have to,” will deal with the guilt that typically goes along with the role of the caregiver. Anyone needing additional information may call the center at 231-9773.

Ash Wednesday service
Pittsburg Presbyterian Church will have an Ash Wednesday dinner and service, both are open free to the community.

A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. in the Leffler Life Center. Menu will feature vegetable soup, ham and cheese sandwiches and cookies.

The service will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hagman Chapel. Rev. K.O. Noonoo will bring the meditation from Isaiah 58:1-12. Special music will be “Were You There,” with Andrew Hayse as soloist and Susan Laushman on piano. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed and the Imposition of Ashes.

The evening will also include the start of a special six-week Lenten season-themed study around the Lord’s Prayer. Those interested in participating will receive a free copy of the book “Pray Daily: Igniting Our Passion for God.” Anyone needing additional information may visit www.pittpres.org or call 231-2920.

Library iCraft
The art of paper quilling will be featured during the February iCraft program at the Pittsburg Public Library.

Two sessions will be held, at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 and Feb. 27, in the PPL meeting room. Jill Van Dieren, master quiller and artist, will facilitate the program and teach the basics of paper quilling.
Participants will have the option of making a greeting card with a quilled design or a quilled magnet.

iCraft programs are open to anyone in sixth grade through adult, and  limited ti 30 participants. All supplies will be provided, and coffee, tea and treats will be served. Registrations may be made by calling the library at 231-8110.

SEK Interlocal
Southeast Kansas Interlocal No. 637 will have a board meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Interlocal office, 400 N. Pine, Pittsburg.

Xi Pi Chapter
Xi Pi Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, will meet at 7 p.m. at the home of Chloe Moodie with Charlotte Bennett as co-hostess.

Plans will be finalized for the Chapter Couples Valentine Party.

Members should bring a gift for the secret sister valentine exchange.

Chicopee card games
Card games will be played from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday, except holidays, at the Chicopee Community Center.

All card games are welcome. Bridge players do not need to bring a partner, since the game is set up so that everyone plays, even when there is an odd number of players.

Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers will meet every Wednesday at the Homer Cole Community Center. Weigh-in starts at 5 p.m., followed by the meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Frontenac town hall meeting
On February 13, 2013, 7:00 p.m., at the Municipal Court Building located at the corner of McKay and Crawford Streets, Frontenac, Chief Randy Flora, Frontenac Police Department, will hold a town hall meeting to discuss establishing a Crime Prevention Program/Neighborhood Watch Program.   All interested citizens and business owners are invited to attend this meeting.
