Merle and Marvella Markley

Merle and Marvella Markley of Pittsburg, Kansas will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on November 6, 2009. Merle Markley and Marvella Davis were married at the Parsons Church of Christ on November 6, 1949 by the minister, Clarence Price. They began their marriage living in McCune, Kansas but have spent years in Gallop, New Mexico, Chanute, Kansas and now reside in Pittsburg, Kansas. Merle's varied occupations have included farmer, cattleman, pilot, owner of Markley Coal Co. in Nowata, Oklahoma, owner of Markley Implement Co. in Girard, Kansas for 15 years, and used equipment dealer. Marvella was the co-owner of both Markley Coal Co. and Markley Implement Co. and the financial officer of SE Kansas Area Agency on Aging in Chanute, Kansas for 15 years. Both are members of the Church of Christ. The couple have three children: Darrel Markley and his wife, Sheila, of Pittsburg, Kansas, Valerie Harris and her husband, Alan, of Lexington, S. Carolina, and Vicki Younger and her husband, Steven, of Neosho, Missouri. They have 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A reception honoring them will be given by their children at the McCune Community Center in McCune, Kansas on Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 2:00 p.m.-4 p.m. All friends are invited.
