PITTSBURG —

A certified quilt appraiser will be available at the 2008 Little Balkans Quilt Show to appraise quilts.
Edith Idleman, Bella Vista, Ark., is certified by the American Quilters Society, and has been appraising quilts for 28 years.
Appraisals will be done from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 on the lower level of Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
Quilts are appraised to establish a replacement value for insurance purposes, to determine a value for donations, gift or estate purposes as set by the IRS and to set a fair market value for sale of quilts.
Appraisals are also used after shipping a quilt that is lost or stolen. Some shipping companies will only settle for the cost of materials, unless a written appraisal is available and can be supported.
Some homeowner’s insurance policies may not cover the artistic value of a quilt. Quilt owners should check with their insurance companies to be sure their quilts are adequately insured.
Appointments are necessary for appraisals, and may be made by calling Elma Hurt at 231-0050.
