Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 187 will have pancake day from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Center, 3105 N. Joplin.
Menu will feature pancakes, sausage, eggs and beverage for $5. Carry-outs will be available.
Proceeds will sponsor student musicians from Frontenac High School and Pittsburg High School to a week-long and camp where they will receive intensive instruction in both music technique and formation marching skills, culminating in their performance at a banquet on the night prior to the 2010 Shrine Bowl, the parade preceding the game and the half-time show at the game.
The 2010 Shrine Bowl, sponsored by the five Shriners Temples in Kansas, will be played at Pittsburg State University.
The Kansas Masonic All-State Marching Band is sponsored by the Kansas Masonic Foundation and more than 300 local Masonic Lodges in the state. The 2010 band camp will be under the direction of the PSU music department. More than 200 students are expected to participate in the band camp.
Camp scholarships are $300 per student, and cover all expenses of food, housing and instruction. They are funded by individuals or organizations through the local lodges. In previous years, several Shriners Clubs and individuals have joined Pittsburg Masonic Lodge No. 187 to enable the Frontenac-Pittsburg area to send a greater number of students to band camp than larger cities.
