St. Mary’s turkey dinner
St. Mary’s Altar Society annual turkey dinner and craft show will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the St. Mary’s Activity Center.
Meal will consist of turkey, mashed potatoes, salad, green beans, bread and cranberry sauce, with a choice of pie for dessert. Cost will be $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
There will also be a sale of homemade treats, craft show and Scholastic Book Fair.
Health care forum
Interfaith Alliance of Southeast Kansas will sponsor a public forum relating to national health care at 3 p.m. in the Campus Ministry Center, 200 E. Williams.
The forum will be open free to the entire community.
Panelists will be Bill Aquino, vice president of planning and business, Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center; Barbara Barto, Employee Advisory Committee, State of Kansas Employee Health Plan; and Jason Wesco, chief operations officer, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas.
Legion dance
Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 will host a dance, open to the public, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the post home, 2815 N. Joplin. Music will be provided by “Raging Country.”
Lounge will open at 1 p.m.
Chili dinner
ARMA — Arma Masonic Lodge have a chili dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arma American Legion post home.
Cost will be $6, or $7 for carry-outs.
Monday, Nov. 9
NARFE
Chapter No. 0550, National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. in the Bosco Center, located in the basement of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac.
Topic of discussion will be information regarding the prescription drug program.
All federal employees, active or retired, may attend.
Treble Clef Club
Pittsburg Treble Clef Club will meet at 1 p.m. at the home of Betty Wood. Co-hostess will be Judy Hix.
Song of the month will be presented by Patty Nicholas. “Federation Moment” will be presented by Linda Vollen, state president.
Following the meeting will be the program, “Parade of American Music.” An American folk song will be included, as well as compositions by Rodgers and Hart, Heisler and Goodrich and Tesori. Performing will be Jackie Newland, vocalist. Mrs. Hix will be program chairman.
Treble Clef Club is a member of the Kansas Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Guild board
Little Balkans Quilt Guild will have a monthly board meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Pittsburg Public Library. All guild members are welcome to attend board meetings.
Program meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Presbyterian Church.
Frontenac auxiliary
Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary Unit 43 will meet at 7 p.m. at the post home. Patty Cussimanio, president, will preside.
Gifts are being collected for the Christmas gift shop at the Veterans Hospital. Items should be new, and can be for men, women or children. Gifts can include pajamas, socks, gloves, scarves, shirts, etc. Stuffed toys, games, stationery and towels are also desired, but no liquids or glass items should be donated. Items may be brought to the meeting or taken to Sharon Papish, 605 Willard, Frontenac. Anyone needing additional information may her at 231-8571.
Hostesses will be Alice Friskel and Loretta Parkison. Gifts will be packaged for shipment following the meeting.
Frontenac card games
Card games will be played from 1 to 4 p.m. every Monday except holidays at the Frontenac Senior Citizens Building. Primary game is pinochle, but any card game is welcome, and those who wish may bring their own bridge foursome.
