Friday Study Club
Friday Study Club will meet for a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at Crestwood Country Club. Hostesses will be Dee Higgins, Lois Bellm and Carolyn Brooker.
Bob Mosier, president of Kansas RCD, will present the program titled “The Greening of Greensburg After the Tornado.”
Charlene Schoenfeldt is club president.

‘Signs of Christmas’
GIRARD — Girard United Methodist Church will offer “Signs of Christmas,” a bazaar and lunch, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Girard Catholic Hall.
Baked goods and “attic treasures” will be available during the event. Lunch featuring chili or soup, dessert and beverage, will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a cost of $5.

Gospel meetings
Gospel meetings are planned at 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ, 702 W. Fourth.
Speaking will be Clint DeFrance, Columbia, Mo. All are welcome, and no nightly offerings will be taken.

Bingo night
Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 will have bingo night, open to the public, at 6:30 p.m. at the post home, 2815 N. Joplin.
Canteen will open at 5:30 p.m. and feature burgers, steak sandwiches and chicken strips.

Joplin dance
JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin Shrine Club will sponsor a dance, open to the public, from 7 to 10 p.m. at 1040 S. Joplin Ave. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and concessions will be available.
Music will be provided by the Bobby Russell Band. Admission will be $4. Anyone needing additional information may call 417-782-6116.

PSU choir concert
Choirs of Pittsburg State University will present their annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. in McCray Recital Hall.
Open free to the public, the concert will feature the University Choir, PSU Chorale and women’s ensemble under the direction of Susan Marchant.
Graduate students Hannah Brewer and Daniel Benitz will serve as accompanists for the concert. Julia Penner will be featured as flute soloist in the John Rutter “Musica Del Domini,” and percussion students of James Clanton will assist in the performance of Sydney Guillaume’s “Mama Afrika.” Vocal soloists will include Charlotte Evans, Kimberly Arzoian and Andrew Hayse.
The program will be drawn from works by Mozart, Samuel Scheidt, Robert Parsons, Steven Sametz, Herbert Howells, Vijay Singh, David Conte, Guy Forbes, Gustav Holst and Geraint Lewis.
The evening will also include a silent auction of gourmet desserts, which will be on display before, during and after the concert. A sale of other baked goods will also be offered. Proceeds from these projects will benefit the choirs’ 2010 spring tour to Ireland.

World Community Day
Church Women United will observe World Community Day with a program at 9:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church.
First observed in 1939, World Community Day is an occasion for Christian women to pray and work for lasting peace. It focuses on justice and peace in the global society.
Theme this year is “Piecing Earth Together,” and focuses on the environment, and the need to work together to be good stewards of the gifts of the earth. An action guide provides ways to support the earth and reduce carbon footprints.
The program will be open free to the entire community. Refreshments will be served.

Chili/soup feed
Pittsburg Lions Club will have a chili and soup feed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
Cost will be $5 for adults and $2 for children. Carry-outs will be available. All proceeds will go to help community residents, primarily with eye care.
